Julian is the second son of [Rilga]? and Oberon. He, Gerard and Caine are probably the closest siblings in the Amber royal family. He and his full brothers are the most passionately attached to Amber City and its people; Rilga was a mortal noble of Amber.

Julian is Warden of Arden. The notion that this is his permanent job is somewhat new, dating to Eric's regency. Previously the job had floated between him, Caine, Gerard, Eric, Corwin, Bleys, Brand and Deirdre according to Oberon's whim. He is the best Warden in memory.

Julian has one child, his daughter Thera. They are close.

Julian's mount Morgenstern is probably the host of a powerful earth elemental.

Julian has demonstrated a lasting and intense attraction to Fiona. He has told the family that he wishes to marry her. She isn't interested and he doesn't press the point; should she change her mind, he'll be available. The attraction seems to have been dimmed a bit by Fiona's involvement in Bleys' and Corwin's attack on Amber. (Not everyone is convinced that Julian's longing is real though he has acted as if it were for over a century. It does bug Fiona. A lot.)

Update: Julian is acting as Warlord of Amber to Queen Vialle since the Disaster. Recent information says that King Random is dead. What this means for the monarchy is up in the air. Oberon never established any kind of succession law for the Family as he apparently planned to live and rule forever.

Julian has been much more demonstrative and affectionate a father since Thera was abducted and bare-brained. He went so far as to make a deal with Brand, whom he hated and feared for many years, to get her a new body.
