Martin is Random's son and nephew/effectively big brother to Queen [Melissandre]?, childhood pal to Jade and Benedict'slast protegee. After Queen Moire's death and before Llewella's return Martin was the only Pattern master the Rebmans has available to repair damage to their trade network's shadow paths. That was not a comfortable position as he'd been seen as a 'bad seed' for much of his life in Rebma. He did it mostly for Jade and Melissandre.

He's been disengaging from Rebman politics recently.

Benedict's death hit Martin harder than most. He is Benedict's principal heir and is now Protector of Avalon and master of a supurb military machine of modest size.

Update: Martin went missing in the Disaster. He was captured by House Barimen and imprisoned. They have some of his genetic material.
