Merlin, son of Corwin and Dara Sawall, is based on what we see of him in the first series.

He swore fealty to Random along with his father and then left with his dad to the new Patternverse -- Argent. He is not welcome in Sawall or Chaos.

He shows no signs of being a Logrus initiate. Argent-Pattern works in Amber-Pattern shadow but not as well. He's a Trump artist, a shapeshifter, a sorcerer and a conjuror. He enjoys power-puzzles.

He was sufficiently freaked out by Corwin brainwashing Deirdre into concubiniage that he quietly left Argent via a shortcut he'd discovered to [Earth Two]? (Mykal's Earth). He's been drowning his sorrows in drink, recreational drugs, sport and women. He did let Mykal know about the shortcut.

More recently, Random ordered him dragged in and dried out to help the family. Merlin and Fiona came up with a combined spell & Argent Pattern working that momentarily cut the link between Corwin and Grewswandir. In that moment of clarity, Corwin threw the sword away.

Merlin's oldest Amber friend is Martin, from their time secretly aiding Oberon. He gets along well with Mykal, Jade, Andre, Florimel and his half-sisters Samantha and Melissandre.
