I understand now why the weaver clan feels as if they won the lottery. Turns out that the Chaosians can not recreate shadows. The weavers now have 2 shadow paths from their home shadow where many may have none. The Chaosians in charge of our escort said that since they did not want to discomfort us by taking us along the ways they usually travel, they would allow us to continue on our way in the method we were using, but with an escort; about 400 people with attending animals and luggage. The price of us going to visit their king was to create worlds for them. I created the most desolate and miserable shadows I could think of: swamps, deserts, radioactive, etc.. In every shadow we made, some lucky chaos lord would stay while others joined. After we had gotten there I was reminded that I had mot messed with the magic levels and I’d completely forgotten to give them any tundra shadows. Oh well, something to remember for next time.
We made it to Chaos and met the king. He was pretty sharp, but you’d have to be to survive there, much less keep your position as king. Archie did most the talking. Turns out that by pulling Martin out, we got the Borrimans in some deep kimchee with the king as they had to admit having had and lost an Amberite. Having had one prisoner and not telling him could be forgiven, but to lose him…. The king took possession of the house Roc people. Evidently they were in trouble too for having backed a competitor for the throne. He said he may reconsider, especially since their method of transportation is one of the few available in chaos anymore. After that we were encouraged to trump home – I’m sure he didn’t want to give us any chance to pick up any more information than we already did.
Once home, we gave the others a download and were excused. I headed over to Flora’s townhouse as that is where Corwin had put up the woman he had introduced as my mother. She was feeling rather isolated as he had brought her here and left to handle the Blaise thing right away. So here she was in a strange town, not knowing anyone, in a 30 year old body, with memories of being 70. Needless to say she was confused. We went out and I showed her the town. We shopped, chatted, ate, toured Archie’s ship and went dancing. I called her ‘Mom’ in public a lot so the locals will know to treat her well. I told her abit of my life and about Amber. I had to heavily edit it as she was not ready for the idea of this not being Earth nor the whole ‘power over reality’ thing. I’m planning on going back tomorrow. I need to get her settled in, preferably in her own place with people she can talk to. Maybe I’ll talk to Flora to see if she knows anyone who could be mom’s friend/companion when I’m not there.
