Session 13
Mykal works to rearrange the topography of Paris to prevent Corwin from coming through. He blows up some buildings, makes blockages and generally trashes the area. Flora extends her Pattern sense to try and determine where the new points of congruence will be. She then tries to manipulate where the new entrance will be but immediately encounters resistance from Corwin. She is overcome by the effort and is falls unconscious. Mykal is advised to contact Fiona to find out where Corwin redirected the entrance. She comes, but too late. Corwins strike teams are pouring through and seizing all three versions of Paris. Mykal confers with Gerard and pulls he and Dierdre through a trump before Corwin can reach them. Dierdre and Gerard are scuffling and Mykal gets whacked a bit in the process. It appears Corwin can shadowwalk straight through without having to go through the portal region. This is bad, since he can outmaneuver any defense that is put up. They call in Random, who uses the Jewel to eliminate the portals and block shadowshifting, thereby closing off the shadow.
Jade consumes a bit of the body of the spy she caught (grossing out the onlookers) and examines the gear. As usual, the stuff is untraceable. Vramin did not recognize the spy either, so she has hit a dead end. Jade contacts her mother (teasing her a bit) then heads off to visit her father in chaos once more. While there, she is asked by her father to guard his back for an important meeting. He has decided to recognize Jade as his spawn and wants to present her to House Sawall officially. There are factions involved and not all want Vramin to take precedence in the family. The meeting is set, Jade is allowed to accompany her father, and Vramin begins his political campaign. She is assigned a spidery assistant (for domestic magic) she names "Fluffy" and begins to acclimatize to the new culture.
Andre follows and captures a flying courier on it's way from the Beastmaster lair to the central headquarters of the Black Watch. He brings the creature and the dispatch to Bleys first, then takes it on to Fiona and Random for debriefing. There he learns of the Corwin problem. Time is short, so Andre gets permission to use the best codebreakers available and has Merlin shanghaied into examining and removing the magical traps. Random tells Deirdre to leave Merlin out of her vendetta with Corwin.
Mykal get the job of hunting down Merlin and bringing him to examine the message. It takes some time, as Merlin is pretty trashed. Mykal gets him detoxed and cleaned up. Merlin is allowed to use Fiona's tools (as she is indisposed) and he succeeds in removing the wards. Then Mykal fills Merlin in on current events. Merlin theorizes, and Random soon confirms, that with the link to Argent severed the three Earths will naturally re-merge. Everyone present but Random decides to leave for safer ground until Earth reforms. He stays to smoothe the transition, if possible.
After Earth resolves itself back into the single modern version, Corwin is tracked down by sensing for Greyswandir. The heavyweights encounter him in the subway and hit him with a spell. It seems to break some kind of spell emanating from Greyswandir that may be effecting Corwin's mind. Corwin seems to come to his senses for a minute, then ditches Greyswandir and flees the scene successfully.
Jade learns the variety of duelling weapons used in chaos and practices with her father. That night, an assassination attempt is made on her father using a creature known as a shambler. With her Pattern, she is able to hold it at bay long enough for her father to recover his senses and grab a weapon effective against it: a tuning fork of sorts. The next morning Vramin secures permission from Llewella to make the announcement and he publicly embraces Jade as his heir apparent.
